Tit Bits of Famous Cyprus Love Affairs ............
Did you know that
apart from being famous for her beauty, Aphrodite was just as famous for her
love affairs?
Aphrodite was the
most beautiful goddess in the Greek mythology. Being the most attractive and
sensual goddess among the Olympian gods of Ancient Greece, Aphrodite was the
goddess of beauty, love and pleasure.
The sea carried
Aphrodite to Cyprus; therefore she is also referred to as Kypris and Cyprus is
referred to as the island of Aphrodite.
The common belief
is that Aphrodite was born when Cronus, the son of Uranus (the father of Gods),
castrated his father and threw his genitals into the ocean. From the foam that
was gathered around the mutilated genitals, Aphrodite emerged and her stunning
beauty captured many mortals and immortals.
Aphrodite was
married to the Greek god, Hephaestus, who was a cripple and not handsome, like
the other gods. She was known to have numerous affairs with other gods and
mortals alike. Her most notable affair was with the Greek god of war, Ares. This
affair was notorious and long standing. Her husband, Hephaestus, knew about her
affair with Ares and decided that they needed to be punished. He got his revenge
by trapping them in a bedchamber that he shared with his wife and having them
suspended naked in a golden net.
Scandalous tales
tell of her numerous affairs with the Olympian gods as well as her part in
inspiring so many immortals to pursue love relationships with mortals causing
chaos and disruption.
